After a major media or data conversion or copying job, you may
be faced with many old tapes that need disposal. CMS can provide
Media Destruction services with guaranteed security. All tapes can
be completely degaussed before destruction and then disposed of
in compliance with local environmental regulations. Some parts may
also be recycled. CMS will provide a certificate of media destruction
if required. All tapes can be completely degaussed before destruction
and then disposed of in compliance with HIPAA environmental regulations
as well. There are two types of destruction as shown below:
Data Destruction
This service is often referred to as "Degaussing", or erasing the
data from the physical tape. This process does not destroy the media
itself, only the recorded data. Data Destruction, or Degaussing
can be done at your site, or at a CMS Service Center. If performed
at your location, CMS will provide all equipment and labor to complete
the Data Destruction process. Once the data is destroyed, your media
is ready to be reused, redeployed to other locations, destroyed
or, in many cases, accepted in trade for credit on your next purchase
with CMS.
Tape Shredding and Disposal
Tape shredding can be performed at your premises or off-site. This
service destroys the physical media itself. Typically, the EPA (Environmental
Protection Agency) for a specific area frowns on simply "throwing
tapes away" since they are not a biodegradable product. This action
would also raise certain security questions in many of today's corporate
auditor's minds. Therefore, CMS offers a Media Destruction Service
whereby the media is destroyed and disposed of in an environmentally
acceptable manner. We also provide a "Certificate of Media Destruction"
that meets most auditor requirements. Secure and environmentally
safe tape shredding is the way to go to be assured that your confidential
information does not leave your office.
